Sexy desktop computers hit Canada’s largest
interior design event
September 28, 2006, Toronto – It could be a
new category of product for IIDEX / NeoCon.
Canadian industrial designer Howard Suissa
launched his company and its product today
at Canada’s largest interior design event.
Suissa Computers designs and builds
exclusive computer systems with cases
handmade in wood with metal and other accent
materials.
Suissa’s designs are a first in the
industry. “While technology and design have
advanced in leaps and bounds, the artistic
cultural reflection found in computer case
design has stagnated,” says the Thornhill,
Ontario based designer. “Most design
discussion on computers is either on the
disappearance of technology, or is a visual
grappling with a technology one no longer
understands.”
He says the former leads to a
“what’s-the-point-if-it’s-going-to-disappear”
attitude, while the latter results in clear
plastic on everything electronic. “With the
integration of computers into our living
environment, people are craving something
more human,” says Suissa. “They relate to
natural materials more readily than to the
cold sterility of plastic or metal.”
Suissa also unveiled “Fire @ Will,” a
prototype made with the recycled wood
off-cuts from the other models. “Our
production process is clean, and we recycle
all our wood and metal waste,” says Suissa.
“Wood waste is used as mulch in the garden
or is used in other projects.”
The upscale computers are stacked with a
choice of high end component packages, for
home and home office, gaming or
entertainment.
